Jane
Hoople - My paintings are more about the complexities
of color, form and shape than the subject matter they are based
on. It’s about the interplay of light and shadow across
a rhythmic movement, with beautiful colors and the mystery of
nature.
It’s like that wonderful moment in the beginning of a sunny
day, when one just wakes up, before you realize what has to be
done and the world intrudes. When there is still a little sleep
left in your eyes, and the hazy light with blurry eyes make the
world full of soft light with shapes and movement. They’re
about the beauty of a moment, rather than the objects and places
we covet.
I love to paint, and I like to think that which each creation
I get a little closer to grabbing and holding onto that elusive
moment of time when everything is perfect.

Ethel
Chynoweth (nee Pawis), Ojibway women from Wasauksing
First Nation. On Reserve until the age of 19, in her early 20's
she went to Sir Sanford Fleming College and received her certificate
for Native Economic Development and Small Business Management.
She returned to school at the age of 28, attending Trent University,
enrolled in the Native Management Economic Development Program
this is when she became immensely aware of her heritage.
The idea to begin sharing the teachings with many is her thoughts
of an image of sharing knowledge, assisting Community unity and
providing an understanding to the Native Cultural Awareness within
today's society. Her own teachings on this level stems from when
she was a young girl, she would sit and watch her mother make
assortment of crafts. In her 30’s she followed the traits
of her mother's talents. In her early 40's she teaches her crafts
to individuals and shares her talents with those whom are looking
for a connection to a heritage that so longs to survive.
